That particular year, he also made the All NBA Team and averaged close to 30 points per game. Last season was a down year for the 5’9 point guard and it should not be a secret by now.
However, a change of scenery for Thomas should do him some good. What better place than the Mile High where a young core is blossoming before the league’s very eyes. Thomas will start off the season backing up Jamal Murray and this will be ideal as it will allow Murray to continue to develop.
Some of Thomas’ most underrated seasons of his career were when he was a part of a second unit. Seasons such as ones he spent with the Phoenix Suns and even the Sacramento Kings for a bit. Speaking of Sacramento, guess who his coach was in those days. That is right, current Denver Nuggets’ head coach, Michael Malone.
Last year, he even came off the bench a few times for the Los Angeles Lakers and some times, it paid off. In the last half of the season, Thomas had a few games where he had 20 points or more.
These were flashes of the Boston Celtics’ Isaiah Thomas and the Nuggets will be seeing him a few times this coming season. He knows his role on this team and seems committed to the long term vision for the Nuggets’ organization.
Even if this will be a short pit stop in his NBA journey. The Nuggets got a bargain for Isaiah Thomas and they will get a lot out of him coming off the bench this year.
