The Denver Nuggets are set to add Donald Sloan to the training camp roster which is good considering they are in need of depth.

The Denver Nuggets’ Isaiah Thomas is still battling problems with his hip. With this in mind, Thomas may not be ready in time for the start of the upcoming training camp.

As a result, this leaves a void in the roster at the back up point guard spot. Insert point guard, Donald Sloan.

For those who do not know who Sloan is, he is a five year veteran who has bounced around the league. Per basketball reference, Sloan has played for the Indiana Pacers, Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers, New Orleans Hornets and the Atlanta Hawks. He has even spent some time playing overseas.

In his five seasons he has played, Sloan has averaged 5.5 points per game to go along with an offensive rating of 102. Last season, his offensive rating was a career high 110 as he played with the struggling and rebuilding Brooklyn Nets.

He also had a true shooting percentage last season of 53.6% which was also another career high for the NBA journeyman. Sloan also averaged 4.4 assists per game last season being the back up point guard for the Nets which is serviceable.

Sloan is not going to be taking over starting duties over Jamal Murray anytime soon, so for any Nuggets fan who is not sold on the potential signing, he will simply be a training camp addition for the time being. Especially since Isaiah Thomas is still rehabbing his bad hip as alluded to earlier.

Not to mention, Sloan could pan out well and make the roster as a nice reserve for the Nuggets if one of the active roster players succumbs to injury during the season. Especially if Thomas continues to battle injury issues.

The Nuggets will most likely sign Donald Sloan to a training camp deal and although it is not a huge signing, it is a positive one.
