Denver Nuggets at Clippers: Season opener preview
By Mathew Huff
The Denver Nuggets are back for regular season action as they take on the Clippers at the Staples Center.
The Denver Nuggets will look to get off to a hot start as they return to the Staples Center to battle the Doc Rivers coached Los Angeles Clippers.
The Clippers were the only team that defeated the Nuggets in the preseason which should make for an intriguing match up for the season opener. The Nuggets are in for a great season as they are coming off of two straight years of finishing only one game out of the Western Conference post season.
With Paul Millsap coming back healthy and the addition of Isaiah Thomas to the Nuggets’ second unit, the hype around this team is at an all time high. There has not been this high of expectations for a Denver Nuggets team since the 2013 season when the team set a franchise record for wins with no All Stars on the team.

Jamal Murray, Gary Harris and Nikola Jokic are the core trio of the Nuggets’ squad and will be in for huge years as they look to propel the team to the top of the Northwest Division standings.
Their first test will not be an easy one as the Los Angeles Clippers are hungry to prove everyone wrong. They are looking to prove they are still a post season team despite moving on from Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.
Doc Rivers has been around the NBA for a while as a head coach and there is a reason. He knows what he is doing and knows how to get the best out of role players. Despite the Clippers having no All Stars on their roster, the Clippers are still a NBA team and like the saying goes “any NBA team can beat any NBA team on any given day.”
The benches for these teams will be key in this game. The second unit of the Nuggets had a great preseason which had at least two players average double figures in points in Trey Lyles and Mason Plumlee.
The second unit of the Clippers is no slouch at all as they boast the reigning Sixth Man of the Year, Lou Williams who had a career last season averaging around 22 points per game.
This game will be a great opener for both teams and help them gauge where they are at in terms of competing in the Western Conference.
