The Denver Nuggets will welcome the defending champion Golden State Warriors to town and Gary Harris will have his work cut out for him.

Why will Gary Harris have his work cut out for him? The Denver Nuggets’ starting shooting guard will be matched up with arguably the best two guard in the NBA, Klay Thompson.

Klay Thompson is as elite as they come when it comes to guards who can play both sides of the floor effectively. The good thing is that Gary Harris is somewhat of a poor man’s version of Klay and is off to a nice start this year already averaging 19 points per game to go along with a defensive rating of 99 and a defensive box plus/minus of +5.2.

Thompson on the other hand, is also having a decent season albeit, through just two game. He is averaging only 13 points per game, but is making up for it in other areas such as his defensive rebounding percentage of eight percent and his unselfish nature.

What I mean by this is he is not making a big deal out of getting more shots when he has the talent to be a number one option on many other teams in the league.

Klay is willing to defer to Steph Curry and Kevin Durant and yes, even Draymond Green once in a while if it means helping the Warriors maintain their dominance. While Klay’s numbers in other areas may not look stellar, we have to remember he is playing on a stacked team and we are only a couple games into the regular season.

This would be a great game for him to re-gain some of his confidence if he is able to get the better of Harris. A young two guard who is similar to him and will be making a case for All Star consideration this year in the packed Western Conference.

Regardless, this always makes for an intriguing match up to watch. Who wins the battle in not the offensive category, but rather the defensive category, will have a bigger impact on the outcome of the game.

Let’s hope Gary Harris can keep up his hot streak and find a way to keep Thompson in check.
