Denver Nuggets: A Halo story
By Blake Holmes
Up first, I have DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell, and his character would be…The Rookie from Halo 3: ODST.
The Rookie is the main protagonist of Halo 3 ODST, in which you control him going around the destroyed city of New Mombasa, trying to figure out what has happened to your fellow soldiers in a battle with the Covenant.

In the game, you don’t just control Rookie, instead, he is only used to find certain clues that allow you to piece together what happened to each other ODST in the battle. After you find these clues, you take control of the ODST in the battle, as you play out what actually happened to them.
ODST isn’t a bad game by any means, but it is a very forgettable experience in the Halo series. I mean, the multiplayer is literally Halo 3‘s multiplayer on a disc. While it’s cool to play a different style than the other Halo experiences, it’s not one that you see many saying they loved by any means.
Enter Akoon-Purcell, as he is playing his first season with the Denver Nuggets. He was great in the Summer League, and that is ultimately what earned him a roster spot. He’s shown flashes of potential success, and looks to try to play the same role that Torrey Craig played just a year ago. With that being said, if you ask a Nuggets fan who their favorite player is, it’s most likely not DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell.
Again, not saying he’s a bad player, but he’s just not as known on the team even though he is still good in his own way. You could say the same for Rookie.
