Denver Nuggets: Trey Lyles‘ perfection.

Trey Lyles Perfection Helps Put Denver Nuggets’ Lead Out Of Reach

As mentioned in my last article, the Denver Nuggets victory over OKC was a lot closer than it looked.

"“Denver’s 7 point win margin came from an additional field goal, made 3 pointer and 2 free throws.”"

The article also points out that OKC missed 8 free throws. Which is the exact amount of points OKC needed to win the game.

Trey Lyles Was All In

One of the things the article left out, is what a big game Trey Lyles had. A big part of being a professional athlete is chasing perfection. Striving to be as close to physical perfection as possible. Aiming for perfection mentally, from the free throw line and practically everywhere else.

On Saturday night against the Thunder, Trey Lyles attained (what is for many) the unattainable. Trey Lyles, played a perfect game. Going 6-6 from the field, 2-2 from 3 and 2-2 from the free throw line. Putting up a hyper-efficient 16 points in 20 minutes of playing time. Undoubtedly however, it took the entire Denver Nuggets’ roster to achieve the win.

Denver Nuggets Played And Won Together

Jamal Murray had a huge impact on the game too. Putting up a near triple double (22 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists). Interestingly, we recently questioned who the number 2 option behind Jokic was. Moreover, we suggested the Denver Nuggets might need more leadership at the level of the players. Given Jamal’s play this season, Jamal may end up being that 2nd option and more of a leader for the Denver Nuggets. Time will certainly tell.

Furthermore, with Gary Harris being out with a foot injury, Torrey Craig did an amazing job, playing defense against some of the best players in the NBA. Russell Westbrook (26th), Nerlens Noel (27th), Steven Adams (39th) and Paul George (43rd). Are all in the NBA’s top 50 when ranked by their PER rating.

Furthermore, Craig’s contribution on both ends were also a big reason why the Denver Nuggets were successful on Saturday. Each player contributed to a win that required all the efforts of the Denver Nuggets’ players.

Nevertheless, going perfect from the free throw line, three-point line and the field, deserves a lot of recognition. Trey Lyles decision-making was impeccable. Trey had the OKC defense consistently off-balance.

Shooting over them when they were late on close-outs and he had enough space. Whilst up-faking and taking it hard to the rack whenever there was a lane to the basket. Furthermore, what is really important here is what the performance revealed about Lyles’ state of mind. There can be no doubt that Trey Lyles was absolutely focused and locked in to the task at hand, making it possible for Trey to accurately read and react to whatever the opposing defense left available.

We have consistently maintained the Denver Nuggets have more of an upside than most other NBA teams. Trey Lyles and the rest of the Nuggets roster are beginning to show why we feel that way.
