The Sacramento Kings have asked for permission to interview Denver Nuggets GM Calvin Booth as they look for their new head of basketball operations.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Sam Amick, the Sacramento Kings have requested permission to interview several candidates for their vacant head of basketball operations position, including Denver Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth.
Interestingly enough, Booth was only recently promoted to general manager by the Nuggets, accepting the position during the league’s hiatus after predecessor Arturas Karnisovas left to become the Chicago Bulls’ executive vice president of basketball operations. With Denver’s organization since 2017, Booth previously was the team’s assistant general manager.
A bright basketball mind and well-respected for his ability to evaluate talent, Booth does have solid experience in a front office, as he was a part of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ front office as a scout and eventually as the director of player personnel from 2013 to 2017.
Booth is said to have played a significant role in the scouting and drafting of Monte Morris, Michael Porter Jr. and Bol Bol. While Morris and Porter are already important rotation players, Bol has the makings of another one.
There’s no doubt that Denver will want to keep Booth, especially heading into an offseason where they have four rotation players potentially becoming free agents (Torrey Craig, Mason Plumlee, Paul Millsap and Jerami Grant) and a first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
The Nuggets have the look of a team right at the cusp of being a perennial Conference Finals contender and this offseason will be incredibly important.
