Denver Nuggets: Will Bruce Brown close games?

Bruce Brown signed with the Denver Nuggets for slightly less than the full mid-level exception, citing fit as one of his main reasons for choosing Colorado.

As I wrote two weeks ago, I believe Brown will be the second guard off the bench alongside Bones Hyland next season. His positional malleability and his ability to make open shots across the court could see him with a bigger role than in past seasons.

Bruce Brown has played center on offense with the Nets, stretching the floor for the excellent scorers in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, but also defending well above his weight class. The Nuggets are closing all games with Nikola Jokic at center but depending on the matchup, Brown could play at any of the other positions.

Fans know that Michael Malone favors veterans that can play defense and Brown will immediately be at the top of his list there. If Kentavious Caldwell-Pope‘s shot isn’t falling one night, Brown could come in and defend guards. If MPJ is resting with an injury, Brown could come in and guard forwards.

As it stands today, the two starters alongside the big three are KCP and Aaron Gordon. I wouldn’t be surprised if Brown plays himself into the conversation for starting two-guard throughout the season. Competition is great for contending teams and Malone now has an entire 82-game season to figure out who’s the best fit.
