If the Dallas Mavericks are looking for a different point guard to pair with Cooper Flagg, they may have just been given a hint about who Mark Cuban thinks they should go after. In a random tweet on X with no context, Cuban posted a link to a video of Jamal Murray dunking during Game 2 of the 2022-23 NBA Finals, and it immediately started raising eyebrows of Nuggets fans.

Mark, what does it mean? You're no longer the owner, and you said yourself in a follow-up tweet that you no longer have a connection to the Mavericks. So, are you just a random fan giving your high-profile opinion that you think the Mavericks should trade the Denver Nuggets for Murray? Ok. That could be possible. He is just a fan again, after all.

The Nuggets shouldn't trade for Kyrie Irving

The Mavericks have a potential superstar on their hands in Flagg, and plenty of cap space to take on Murray's large $50 million next year. They also have Kyrie Irving at point guard, who will be coming back from an ACL injury that caused him to miss the entire 2025-26 season. He's also 34 and on the back end of his career. The Nuggets shouldn't be trading for Irving to pair with Nikola Jokic.

The Nuggets need to get younger, not older. And a Murray trade needs to net the Nuggets a substantial defensive upgrade. Irving isn't that, plus coming off an injury should take his name off the board for the Nuggets.

The Mavericks do have potential pieces for the Nuggets

The Nuggets should also not dump salary by trading Murray, and the Mavericks have a few nice targets that could help the Nuggets out. But it would get the Mavericks busy in free agency to fill out their roster.

The Nuggets could ask for something like P.J. Washington, Daniel Gafford, and Naji Marshall in return for Murray. The trade works in the machine, and it saves the Nuggets $3.6 million in cap space next year.

It would be a good trade overall for the Nuggets in the depth department, but it would probably require trading someone like Aaron Gordon to get Washington or Gafford into the starting lineup. However, all three are good defenders, and if the Nuggets could land any of them in a trade this summer for Christian Braun, it would be a nice upgrade. Hint, hint, Mavs.

At the end of the day, the Nuggets' backcourt and wings did a terrible job of stopping the Minnesota Timberwolves, and some change will be needed if the Nuggets want to advance to the second round of the playoffs next year. Even if it's a big change.
