Jamal Murray

The Denver Nuggets selected Kentucky freshman sensation, Jamal Murray from Kitchener, Ontario, with the seventh selection of the 2016 NBA Draft. Nicknamed “the Blue Arrow” for his trademark celebration (seen above), Murray really knows how to get buckets and can do so in a variety of ways.

Murray is an incredibly talented guard. He can handle the rock, but coach John Calipari had him play off-ball last year and allowed point guard Tyler Ulis to set Murray up. Murray can also shoot. He finished second in NCAA history for three-pointers made by a freshman — number one is unanimous NBA MVP Steph Curry. Watch highlights of Jamal Murray filling it up for Big Blue here.

Murray’s ability to handle the ball as well as play off of it should afford him valuable playing time next season, as his versatility is not something the Nuggets’ backcourt has had in year’s past. I envision Murray playing behind Harris while he adjusts to the speed and physical nature of the NBA before eventually taking over ball-handling duties for the second unit.
