His Impact

Justin Patton has the tools and skills to succeed in the NBA with the coaching. Coach Malone has shown he can help big men improve their defense. When he coached the Kings in 2014, he helped raise Demarcus Cousins block totals from .7 a game to 1.4 a game. Cousins is a very skilled offensive player but he isn’t built to be a defensive anchor, but under Malone he was close.

Patton is built to be a Rim Protector, he is 7’0 feet with 7’2 wing span and is a superb athlete. He only had 2.7 fouls a game so he is also pretty good at blocking and altering shots around the rim. He also can switch onto some with and would be able to go after stretch 4s due to his athleticism and agility. Patton is only 230 pounds so he might struggle with the physicality but some time in the weight room over the summer will help with that.

Justin has shown some growth in his offensive game, he had a 68% field goal percentage while showing soft touch and glimpses of footwork in the post. He also shot 53% from deep in a small sample size. The kid practically screams UNICORN potential.

There is some concern with his rebounding because of his frame, but if Jokic can handle himself on the boards while Justin can build muscle and learn to position himself for rebounds.
