Gary Harris and Nuggets in talks for a contract extension

Gary Harris and the Denver Nuggets are reportedly nearing an agreement on a contract extension.

Well, it sounds as if it is finally happening, Gary Harris is about the get contract extension. This is great news considering Harris has been an integral part of the Nuggets’ young core in the past few seasons.

While Nikola Jokic is clearly the focal point to build around going forward, one cannot overlook the improvements Gary Harris has made every year of his career and has became Denver’s best two way perimeter player.

It was reported earlier today by HP basketball on twitter.

If anyone outside of Nikola Jokic on the Nuggets deserves a contract extension, it would be the starting two guard, Gary Harris.

What the deal and details may consist of remains a mystery and another story, but it is good to see the front office looking towards the future of Nuggets basketball and doing something to help solidify their future.

Harris is on the cusp of becoming the next great two way player in today’s league and many expect him to be one of the players to have a break out year this season in the NBA. Denver is making a wise decision in trying to get Harris to stay on the team long term considering it is rare for a player to remain with one team in today’s league.

With Harris close to hitting his prime, the Nuggets are smart for trying to secure him while he is about the have potentially his best years of his career. Gary Harris has actually been long overdue for a contract extension and it is somewhat puzzling this was not done sooner in the off season.
