Fat Lever’s number to be immortalized in Nuggets’ rafters

Fat Lever is one of the most underrated players in NBA history and the Nuggets are going to give him his due by retiring his number.
Apart from the loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the one thing Nuggets fans can feel good about from October 10 is Fat Lever getting immortalized in the Nuggets’ rafters.

The Nuggets have retired a few of their key legends numbers throughout the years, but the one name who seems to always be missing is none other than Fat Lever. Fat Lever was the Nuggets’ premier point guard in the 80’s and was often the overlooked part of the star duo he formed with the great Alex English.
His number 12 is an instantly recognizable figure within the Denver fan base and while he is not a household name like Alex English, he certainly deserves to have his number up in the rafters with the other greats.
Lever was a multiple time all star and is actually eighth on the all time triple doubles list. The man knew how to stuff the stat sheet night in and night out and on top of all of this, he was one of the Nuggets’ best defenders ever.
Lever is actually the franchises all time leader in steals recording 1,167 of them during his Denver tenure per basketball-reference.com. One year, he even averaged an outstanding 2.5 steals per game cementing himself as an underrated perimeter defender in the NBA.
Lever is also ranked seventh in two point field goals in franchise history along with being ranked second in assists per game with an average of 7.5 only trailing Nick Van Exel.

Fat Lever may not be known well to the casual NBA fan, but to die hard Nuggets fans, he is one of the most appreciated point guards in Denver history and he certainly deserves to have his number retired by the organization.
