Fans of the Denver Nuggets and their disdain for the Kroenke Sports Entertainment ownership group have been raging for years. They've always been cheap with the Nuggets and even the Colorado Avalanche compared to their other franchises in other major sports. Neither of them has a proper practice facility, delayed for years by excuses from KSE. But KSE just keeps spending money on other shiny objects instead of investing in the Nuggets properly, and it really rubs fans the wrong way.
It was announced today that KSE would be adding another team to its sports portfolio in 2027. They reached an agreement to purchase the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno.
And while this deal may be the best thing that ever happens for Mike Trout as an Angel (truly hope he gets a shot to play for a World Series title at least once), it's another slap in the face to the Nuggets and the Avalanche. Both of whom are still practicing in facilities that would be better off parodied to make the team worse, like the cheap owner would in the Major League 1 and 2 movies.

The Nuggets are still practicing in the side gym at Ball Arena
The Nuggets will open training camp to start preparations for the 2026-27 season on Sep. 29th in the side gym at Ball Arena, just like they have for the past 27 years. The Nuggets have been using one court, with four side hoops, like a JV team waiting to use the big gym for almost three decades.
Never mind that having proper facilities is one of the biggest things that can attract free agents and keep them happy. How about giving your team some extra space to make it easier to get an extra game in for player development? Maybe that's why Christian Braun and Peyton Watson are the only draft picks to develop in the last six years?
But hey, it could be worse, right? The Avalanche are practicing at a parks and rec facility, the South Suburban Family Sports Center in Centennial.
But sure, let's go spend a few billion on another shiny, new sports franchise rather than investing in a couple of the best teams in their respective sports. Again, the disdain rages.
Building around Nikola Jokic apparently wasn't worth it
At least KSE seems to be willing to spend the money on Nikola Jokic next summer. They seem to be gung-ho to give the best basketball player on the planet the largest contract in NBA history (as long as he sticks around like he says he will). As they should be. They just gave Cale Makar of the Avalanche the largest NHL deal in history.
But instead of ponying up some of that extra cash that KSE and Stan Kroenke sit on to pay an exorbitant luxury tax bill to give Joker the best team possible around him, they don't. And they trade away key components to win a championship, like Michael Porter Jr. and Peyton Watson, to save on those taxes instead. And then they go spend a few billion on another franchise in another sport. The audacity.
The contempt for KSE is strong right now. The Nuggets should get the same treatment as the Rams and Arsenal. But that shiny new practice facility for Jokic may not come until after he's retired at this rate.
